By Sarah Falson | Wednesday | 2008-01-09

Apple has showcased what it’s calling the fastest Mac computer ever – the new Mac Pro with eight processor cores was revealed today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

More than twice as fast as its predecessor, the new Mac Pro incorporates a new system architecture including two Intel 45 nanometer Quad-Core Xeon processors running up to 3.2GHz.

The zippy machine also offers up to 4TB of internal storage, which is ideal for designers and other creative professionals, as well as scientists and digital content creators, says Apple.

Each model comes standard with a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card and 256MB of video memory, along with a new PCI Express 2.0 graphics slot that offers up to double the bandwidth of previous Mac Pros.

All the latest graphics cards are supported, including NVIDA GeForce 8800 GT with 512MB video memory, and NVIDA Quadro FX 5600 with 1.5GB video memory.

Also, the new Mac supports up to four graphics cards at once, able to drive up to eight 30-inch displays for commercial purposes.

Each model also comes with the Leopard operating system, in addition to a new aluminium Apple keyboard.

The standard 8-core model begins at RRP $3,999.
