By David Richards | Monday | 2008-09-08

Blackberry maker Research In Motion has almost doubled their share of the Smartphone market during the past 12 months according to research Company Gartner. they also claim that Nokia's market share is set to slide.

Blackberry maker Research In Motion has almost doubled their share of the Smartphone market during the past 12 months according to research Company Gartner.
Now holding 17.4% share the Company is still behind the likes of Nokia who have 47.4% of the market after selling over 15.3 million smart phones during the past quarter.  This is down from the 50.8 percent Nokia had a year ago.
RIM sold 5.6 million smart phones in April through June, up from 2.5 million a year ago, as it found new clients beyond its main business market.
According to Gartner Nokia needs to introduce more design variations among its N-series multimedia phones to stay ahead. In a Reuters report the research Company claims that Nokia has only tweaked its N-series line-up so far this year and many analysts expect it to lose more market share in smart phones in coming quarters.

Credit Suisse said it expects Nokia's Smartphone market share to fall to 41.6 percent in 2009, hurting profit margins as the new iPhone from Apple grabs additional market share.
