"Sony Puts Every Word You Say On Record"

By Mendelson Tiu | Published:2007-10-26

If your writing or shorthand can’t catch up during those meetings, seminars, or even interviews, then it’s probably time to purchase a digital voice recorder. While there may be a few MP3 players out there that do have audio recording functions, most of them only have the limited function of recording and playing the audio file back. We take a look at Sony’s ICD-P530F IC Recorder and find out whether it will make recording, playing, and transcribing audio files easier.

What's great about digital recorders is the fact that you can transfer the files straight to your PC and listen to the file over and over without any risk of damaging the file. And with various transcribing programs, one can have the leisure of transcribing audio files at their own pace. Sony's IC recorder, the ICD-P530F, is a product that is easy to use and will make transcribing any audio file a snap.

The unit is entirely made out of hard plastic and may withstand a direct hit or two. Its slim and light profile makes it easy for anyone to put the unit inside their coat pocket and take it with them to important meetings.

The unit's display window and speakers, as well as various buttons (stop, rewind/previous, forward/next, record/pause, play/stop, FM Tuner, and display/menu) can be found up front, making it easy to use. And as the buttons are clearly labelled, there is no way for anyone to get ‘lost'.

A USB connector port as well as a hook (for a handstrap) can be found on the unit's left spine, while the hold switch, volume control, and divide button can be found on the right side of the unit. Finally, a built-in microphone, a headphone jack, and a microphone jack are conveniently placed on top of the unit.
