The MeeGo Harmattan 1.2 beta update was announced via
Nokia's developer blog and will be rolled out to developers' N950 shortly. The N950 is a developer only device, where the in-development software updates are tested prior to their release for public N9 smartphones.
Included in the update is over 3,000 software fixes, additional features and improvements. Rumour has it a video calling app will be included, along with application folders on the home screen, an updated camera interface and gallery.
In our review of the N9, we scalded it for its poor gallery organisation and unstable software. This update could do the trick and turn a mediocre phone into one that delivers an enjoyable experience.

Nokia's director of applications for MeeGo, Sotiris Makyglannis, hinted on Twitter that the software could hit N9's by February, and continued to offer support with a "small but valuable" update to 1.3. Even though Nokia's attention is distracted by Windows Phone, it's good to see the company not forsake its loyal customers by still showing MeeGo some love.
